Recycling Program

Recyclable Items: Aluminum Cans, Newspapers, Magazines, Cardboard (flattened & bundled), Glass, Tin, and Plastic(except the grocery store plastic bags and heavy duty #4). Recyclables can be mixed together in your container including paper. Township-provided recycling cart is required for recycling. Recycling is MANDATORY for all residents, commercial, municipal and institutions.
Recycling is collected weekly.

Yard Waste & Leaf Collection

Valley Township collects yard waste one day per month during June through October. Items that will be collected are: glass clippings, vegetable and garden waste, brush and weeds. If bagged, items must be in biodegradable bags. Tree limbs must be cut to size, approximately 3 to 4 feet in length and bundled. Collection Dates for 2013 are: North Side - 2nd Monday of the month (June - October) and South Side - 3rd Monday of the month (June - October).

Leaves are collected in November and early December. 2013 dates are: November 4, November 18, November 25 and December 2.

Christmas trees will be collected on the following Mondays in 2013: January 7, January 14 & January 28. Due to volume and possible weather issues, if trees are not collected on the Monday, they will be collected on the next available day.

Leaves must be in biodegradable bags. Bags are available for sale at the township building (5 bags for $3.00). Please, no plastic bags. OPEN BURNING IS NOT PERMITTED IN VALLEY TOWNSHIP.

The Compost Site, located at 2240 Upper Gap Road in South Coatesville, is open to Valley Township residents every second Saturday of the month from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Proper ID is required. Residents may take the following items to the site: leaves, vegetable & garden clippings, weeds, brush, limbs and dry grass clippings. Biodegradable bags are acceptable. No plastic bags.

What Do I Do With Leftover Paint?

Trash Collection

Trash is collected once a week. Please call the township office if you are not sure of your collection day. Trash fee is $52.00 per quarter. Limit of 4 trash containers per week. Trash cans cannot be more than 32 gallons. As a reminder, the Valley Township Solid Waste Ordinance requires that garbage be kept at all times in a receptacle of not more than 32-gallons that is watertight with lids and handles. Items placed in the can shall be in a bag to protect the contents from scattering or from breaking open. Placing trash bags not in a container at the curb is in violation of our ordinance. Old Working Refrigerators or Freezers Disposal

PECO will give you $35 for old working refrigerators or freezers. To schedule, go to www.peco.com/Smartideas, or call 1-888-5-PECO-SAVE (1-888-573-2672). While they are at your home, they will also pick up one old, working window air conditioner and give you an additional $25. Program funding is limited. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted.

Roads

The Road Department is comprised of eight full-time employees and one Road Master.   The Department is responsible for road maintenance, storm sewer, and drainage work, winter snow and ice removal and installation of traffic signs and street signs.  The Department maintains 29 miles of Township Roads.
